This a simple fail proof 3-ingredient recipe you can cook together for your virtual kingdom date.
Last week, Victor and I had the privilege and honor of going on a double date with Terrance and Shenice in the Indiana church. We had so much fun cooking together. It turns out the coleslaw mix at Trader Joe's is season so we all improvised. Victor also had a blast considering it was his birthday but he also decided to go to Lucky's to get his groceries and an asian mixed salad LOL! Although this was as fail proof as you could get, Victor defied the odds and made some sort of burrito from his ingredients.
THE OVERVIEW FOR THE DATE
Before the date, create a group text with all the disciples. Provide a creative invitation including the date and time. Preferably, have each date send their date the invitation; however, sending it to the group would still be encouraging. Canva offers free and beautiful designs you could work with for your invitations! This is the invitation we used for our date:
“Then Jesus said, ‘I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be thirsty.” (John 6:35 NIV)
Begin your date promptly at the start time and allow at least 15 minutes for adjusting and technical difficulties. Once everything is settled and everyone is caught up, you can then start your kingdom date with a prayer led by one of the brothers and then begin with a scripture regarding food. Have fun explaining the scripture with the date!
For the date you will NOT read the instructions to them but will all rely on following the instructions themselves (this will add to the fun of the date). Have fun talking as you cook together, once everyone is done take a picture of your food and share it with the group!
If you find yourself running out of things to say, here are a few questions you could ask your date. What do you like to cook? What are some of their "famous" recipes? Have you ever cooked something for a dance or meeting of the body? Do you enjoy cooking? How often do they cook?
INGREDIENTS
You'll need from Trader Joes:
1. Coleslaw kit (or salad mix and a lemon zest dressing)
2. Tortillas
3. Fully cooked traditional carnitas
1. The coleslaw kit comes with a mixture of red and green cabbage, julienned carrots, and a creamy slaw dressing. Mix it all together in a bowl and set aside.
2. The carnitas are already completely cooked, so just heat them up according to the package directions. I heat them up in a skillet over medium heat.
3. Heat up the tortillas. I put them in the same skillet I used to heat up the carnitas. That way the tortillas soak up a bit of the leftover fat and get nice and crispy.
4. Put the slaw and the carnitas on top of the tortillas and serve as is, or garnish with any extra toppings in your fridge like jalapeño, avocado, cheese, or a squeeze of lime.
